Welcome to Laughter Yoga. Come laugh with Gita for no reason! We don’t use jokes or comedy. We laugh in a group as a form of exercise, and with eye contact, the laughter quickly becomes contagious!
We call it Laughter Yoga because it combines laughter exercises with the deep breathing and deep relaxation of yoga. No need to twist yourself into a pretzel! Instead, we do fun and childlike laughter exercises like cell phone laughter, crowded elevator laughter, jackpot laughter, hot sand laughter — you get the idea!
Laughter Yoga is the brainchild of Dr. Madan Kataria, a medical doctor from India, and his wife Madhuri. They started the World Laughter Movement in 1995 with only 5 people in a park in Mumbai and now it is a worldwide phenomenon in over 60 countries!
Gita has been teaching “regular” Yoga for over 30 years. Since she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, she hasn’t been able to do all of the “regular” Yoga poses she used to do. That’s why she is delighted to have discovered and to share Laughter Yoga, which just about anyone can do. Whether you’re fit or frail, you can reap the tremendous health benefits of laughter!
